thank you all
For the grand surprise. Nan got Michael on the phone, then sat me down and put your memories and comments on my screen. It took a slow moment for me to realize just what was going on. Then I got weepy --a sentimental old fluff, as Groucho once called himself. Then I got into it, the pleasures of remembering and reconnecting and the immense satisfaction of being the subject of so much rich writing from so many wonderful writers. It meant a lot is what I mean to say. My love and gratitude to you all. Alan

I had Alan Lebowitz in 1978 and 1979 for several courses (creative writing and American Fiction). He was one of the most influential professors I had at Tufts. I also had the privilege of "kid-sitting" for his son on occassion. I am now a civil rights attorney working in the filed of education -I also obtained a Master of Arts degree in Teaching English as a Second Language, and I taught at UMASS - Boston - much of my motivation to teach was due to Professor Lebowitz's wonderful influence - This is a huge loss to Tufts, but I am bery happy for him - I wish him the very best.
